Composite endorsed by Microsoft

Composite recently contributed with a webcast presentation at Microsoft's Windows Server 2008 launch. In the webcast TP/ISV Manager at Composite, Mikkel Sørensen, shows how Composite C1 uses Microsoft's Windows Workflow Foundation (WF) to administer user interface (UI) workflows.

Impressed by Composite C1

Microsoft originally contacted Composite back in November 2007 after learning about Composite C1's innovative use of WWF. Microsoft were so impressed that they asked if they could use Composite C1 as a case for its Windows Server 2008 launch.

Usability in the user interface

One of the goals of Composite C1 is to ensure a high degree of usability in the UI. Composite C1 uses WF to handle the challenge of state management and writing fairly complex UI flow logic. This allows the user to be guided by wizards and from wizard flows to "edit document" flows and in general get good feedback from the system.

Custom Workflow Foundation activities

Composite C1 contains a set of custom Workflow Foundation activities that enable developers to build UI flows from within the Workflow Foundation designer and define the UI artifacts in a simplified XAML like markup language. This eliminates the need for knowledge about the implementation details of the actual web UI.

Composite C1 also uses Workflow Foundation for workflow related tasks like scheduled publication of pages.
